Finding the Right Buddy (bd) Size for Your Long Hose

To get the best fit, you’ll need to match three things:

  • Your hose type (braided vs rubber)
  • Your preferred Buddy (bd) design (freedom vs control)
  • Your desired hose tension (tight, regular, or loose)

Know Your Hose Diameter

Braided LP hoses (like Miflex) typically have a standard 12mm diameter. If you know of exceptions from specific brands, we’d love to hear from you!

Rubber LP hoses don’t follow a universal size. The most common diameters are 13mm or 14mm. 

If you're unsure or don’t want to measure, go with 14mm — it gives a secure hold without being overly tight. Don’t worry, your hose won’t slip out.

Choosing Your Buddy (bd) Design

Each design gives a different balance of freedom, control, and effort:

  • Single Comb Buddy (bd) – Prioritizes ease and speed. Gives your hose the most freedom of movement and is the easiest to stow.
  • Individual Comb Buddy (bd) – Offers the most control. Ideal if you want to route your hose very precisely
  • Dual Comb Buddy (bd) – A happy middle ground. Balances freedom, control, and ease of use.

Desired Fit

Now that you’ve got your hose diameter and Buddy (bd) design figured out, it’s time to use the sizing chart to find the right fit based on the hose tension you prefer:

Tight Fit – Hose stays firmly in place and doesn’t move easily; takes more effort to adjust.

Regular Fit – Hose moves with some resistance; a balanced, easy-to-manage fit.

Loose Fit – Hose slides very easily with minimal effort; great for quick access or minimal restriction.

Not Compatible – Hose doesn’t sit securely or is too tight; not recommended.
